Carol Robinson-Zañartu, Ph.D.

 

Elizabeth Peña, Ph.D. CCC-SLP is a professor in the School of Education at University of California, Irvine. She is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and is a Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Her research focuses on two lines of inquiry that address the goal of differentiating language impairment from language difference. These two interrelated areas include dynamic assessment and semantic development in bilinguals leading to test development. She has authored or co-authored over 80 professional journal articles, 20 book chapters, and been awarded 27 grants. She is author of Dynamic Assessment and Intervention: Improving Children’s Narrative Abilities protocol and the Bilingual English Spanish Assessment test.

Carol Robinson-Zañartu, Ph.D. is distinguished professor emerita at San Diego State University, Department of Counseling and School Psychology.  Her research focuses on educational equity and the intersectionality of culturally responsive practice, dynamic assessment and mediated learning.  She has been awarded over $14M in federal grants designed to prepare school psychologists to serve diverse populations, and currently directs two with a focus on interdisciplinary preparation with speech language pathologists, school counselors and school psychologists. Dr. Robinson-Zañartu has published over fifty professional articles and book chapters, including several related to dynamic assessment, mediated learning and culturally responsive practice.  She is lead author of a book on the mediation of critical thinking in schools called Twenty-one Thinking Skills for the 21st Century.
